Learning Process with Fun Craft Activity!

Craft is a popular activity enjoyed by both kids and adults. Incorporating origami as a hands-on activity in a lesson plan is relatively easy. On this page, I’ll share some useful ideas to inspire your lesson plans.
Cultural Topic with Easy Craft
Ending with a craft activity is a great way to engage your audience. However, adding detailed cultural or historical content along with fun quizzes is an even more engaging way to tie the lesson or workshop together.
Learn about Children's Day Holiday
If the topic is unfamiliar to your audience, it can be difficult to engage them. However, offering similar concepts or relating the topic to their own experiences will help them better understand and make it easier to engage.
To kick off the topic, I would ask the audience questions like:
What kind of holidays do you have in your country?
Why do you think those holidays are celebrated?
Next, I give quizzes about Japanese holidays, along with some interesting facts. I typically use multiple-choice questions—A, B, and C—and ask participants to raise their hands and guess the right answer. If the topic is Children’s Day, here are a couple of example quizzes:
When do you think Children’s Day is celebrated?
What do you think is the purpose of Children’s Day?
What kind of food or sweets do you think people eat during this holiday?
These interactive questions help keep the learning fun and engaging!
This video is also a great resource for learning about the Children’s Day holiday—it’s helpful for everyone—educator to students!

Community Koinobori Carp Fish (K - 9th Grade)
I’ve used this activity for summer camp with all age groups. For older participants, I ask them to create the foundation of a carp fish body using trash bags. Then, they use handmade scale templates to color or design the carp fish. Cutting out the scale shapes is also a great hands-on activity!
Samurai Helmet Making Activities
For this activity, you will need old newspapers. For decoration, crayons, colored pencils, and colored paper work well.
*Note: The newspaper should be squares for this activity. Also, make sure the newspaper pieces are large enough to create a wearable piece once it’s folded.
